Today I was very pleased to find a DVD version of The Last Unicorn. How exciting! Now all I need to do is find a DVD version of The Dark Crystal, as I've already got Willow. My three favourite movies as a kid.
The cat in the picture has a really bad abscess on his jaw. He's even on pain killers. And he's drooling even more than usual now, and in a really sinewy kinda way. Ew.
I still can't decide whether to take the Wednesday or Friday chem lab. Dammit!
At the moment it looks like a good week at uni will mean at least 17 contact hours, and a bad week will equal at least 28 contact hours. Gosh. I hope they mix and match lab weeks so that I can get something between those two values each week.
I went fishing yesterday. That was interesting, but we didn't catch anything, for which I am grateful. I really don't know what I feel about catching fish... [shrug] I got sunburnt. I seem to be getting sunburnt a lot this summer. I don't think I've been this 'tanned' since I was a child. Scary.
Today, loqia, I saw you walking somewhere in the vicinity of Kingston shops.
Uni's starting again soon. 23rd of February. I think it's too early, but it's then because of when easter is this year. Less than a month left of having the option of doing nothing all day. At least this year the ANU is starting at the same time as the UC.
Oh dear, now I have a real dilemma. Should I sign up for the Friday 2-6pm chem lab, or the Wednesday 2-6pm lab? Argh, dammit!
Yay, KAZ finished the race. They got into Hobart around 2:10am 30th December, and Chris called me at 3:30am to tell me they were there. Line honours they got 16th (yay!) and PHS Division A they got 8th (out of 10).
I'm very happy they're done.
Phooey, I'm so tired. I rode around the whole lake today on my new bike. It's a lovely new bike, but I am so buggered right now. My enthusiasm for KAZ would be evident were I not totally devoid of any spare energy.
You know, I'd really like to know how it's possible for a sailing boat to sail into the wind and still actually not go backwards. I mean, seriously, how is it possible for a boat that relies on the wind in its sails to keep it going and get it going in the first place to go forwards when the wind in all logicality hitting the sails at such an angle that the boat should really be going backwards in the direction of the wind?
Damn, that was a long sentence that made little sense. I wish I could punctuate properly at this time of night. But, no, I can't.
I'm so excited about my new bike that I really wanna go riding, but there's no one who'll go with me! Wah! Not good! My sister is tentatively busy, and that's annoying (plus she's having shoulder problems right when I don't want her to). And meeting Anna for a ride is basically useless 'cause it's long enough of a ride just to meet her. And, well, riding, meeting her, and then coming home again is pointless. I just want a short ride to try my lovely new bike out.
Erg.
But, YAY, KAZ is nearly in Hobart! Wooh! And they're, at the moment, coming 18th for line honours! That's just way nifty.
Bloody hell you stupid off coast Australian wind, it's about time you got your arse in gear and sent those frickin yachts flying. Damn stupid wind! But, finally, that means that KAZ will be reaching Hobart some time today dark time (which includes early morning tomorrow). Well, that's unless River Derwent fucks them all up and keeps them sitting there (like ducks) in hope of some wind. Damn that river, it's just mean!
Ooh, and something amusing is that not only did Skandia hit a sunfish, but so did Grundig AAPT and Zaraffa. So, that makes me think, was it the same sunfish, two sunfish (and one got hit twice, HA HA!), or was it three different ones? Oh the wonders of mystery! Whee!
Anyway, I'm just happy that Chris will be getting into Hobart soon. I just wish I was there to meet him. [sigh]
Ooh, and I got a bike. It's pretty and has suspension. This is a good thing!
Bah. I'm getting bored of refreshing every 10 minutes. I'm addicted 'cause I wanna know what's happening, but they're going so slow now that they hardly move between times. Yesterday KAZ's average speed was 7 or 8 or so knots, but today they've been as slow as 2 or so knots. And their average speed today has been 4 or 5 or so knots. It's just so boring! Last year's race was so much faster!
I'm so excited. Mum and I are going shopping tomorrow for my new bike. Yay! Finally, my own never used before bike! I've only ever had one bike that was mine and only mine, and since then I've managed to inherit two previously sister's bikes, and currently when I want to go riding I borrow my sister's current bike. So, well, that's almost three hand-me-downs. I realised recently that it's about bloody time I get my own bike. Damn!
So, overnight KAZ was overtaken by Ice Fire and Loki, it's closest followers, as well as by Secret Mens Business (what the hell?!), Ain't Misbehavin (!) and Another Challenge. It was as far back as 27th at one point, but now it's 23rd. And it would have been 24th had Nicorette not suffered damage and pulled out.
I was amused to read that Skandia, the current line honours leader and the leader for much of the race, came across a sunfish yesterday which caused the whole boat to stop and with the momentum change direction ('cause of the force the sunfish was exerting on the hull). They took down their sails at this and solved the problem. I had no idea sunfish were that whopping huge! But, I read that they are on average more than one tonne in mass (and they are very odd looking). Amazing, and no wonder the boat did what it did on encountering this monster. Ah hah.
I'm sure you'll all be relieved when the race is over 'cause I'll stop talking about it all day every day.
